Jacques Lake

Difficulty: Difficult/Very Difficult

Description:  A great trail for those looking for a challenge.  The trail starts wide with a mild grade and is easy peasy until arriving at summit lakes near the halfway point.  It then becomes technical singletrack with a moderate grade and many large roots, rocks, and mud holes.  This trail will not accommodate bike trailers for packing gear.  The Jacques Lake campground is located on the breathtaking shores of the lake.

Directions: From Jasper travel north/east on Hwy 16 for 6km and turn right onto Maligne Lake Road(Athabasca Falls.  Follow for 32km to Medicine Lake, the trail head is located on the left at the south end of the lake at the well developed parking lot.  The parking lot is not well signed from the road but once there the trailhead has a detailed map and the trail is obvious.

Dangers and Annoyances:  Staying in any backcountry camp requires the purchase of a backcountry permit available from the Parks Information Centre.

Options: Drive past the trail head and check out Maligne lake after your trip.

Dude Option: This trip is enough of a dude option unto itself.
